‘Nando’ moves away from RP, leaves 3 dead, 3 hurt

Three people were killed while three others were wounded in the wake of tropical depression "Nando," which caused heavy rains in central and northern Luzon over the weekend and is now moving away from Philippine territory. In its 6 p.m. report, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) identified the fatalities as Hermie Arguza, 35, who drowned in San Pablo town in Isabela; and Allan Baromeo, 27, and Ariela Joy Baromeo, 4, who died in a landslide in Anahaw village in Silang, Cavite. Injured in the Silang landslide were Joan Baromeo, 27; Angel Baromeo, 2; and Angela Baromeo, 1. They were brought to San Jose Hospital and Trauma Center in nearby GMA town for treatment, according to Chief Superintendent Perfecto Palad of the Calabarzon Regional Police.
"Continuous rains caused the landslide. Families residing in the area were evacuated to the Barangay Hall," Palad said in a text message. At least 379 families or 1,716 people in Cagayan, Cavite and Kalinga were also affected, the NDCC report said. Floods meanwhile made several roads in Ilocos Sur, Cagayan Valley and Zambales not passable. Meanwhile, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said "Nando" slowed down as it continues to move farther away from the country. Pagasa said that as of 4 p.m. Sunday, "Nando" was located 220 kms northwest of Laoag City and is expected to be over the South China Sea by Monday afternoon. Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur are still under signal number 1, Pagasa said in its 5 p.m. report. "This disturbance will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon and bring occasional to frequent rains over the western section of Luzon," it said. Residents in low-lying areas and near mountain slopes had been advised to take all the necessary precautionary measures against possible flash floods and landslides. - GMANews.TV
