It appears Fil-Hawaiian champ Brian Viloria is a hot boxing commodity these days. Apart from World Boxing Organization (WBO) light-flyweight champion Ivan Calderon, Viloria is being called out for a rematch by no less than former tormentor Edgar Sosa, the reigning light-flyweight king of the World Boxing Council (WBC). Only this week, Sosa successfully defended his title with a sixth-round technical knockout of Puerto Rican Omar Soto. Shortly after the fight before a packed crowd at the Siglo XXI auditorium in Puebla, Mexico, the 30-year-old Mexican champion admitted considering a return bout with Viloria hopefully before the year ends. “Edgar might yet make another title defense at the end of November," said Sosa’s manager Jacques Deschamps. “A rematch with Brian Viloria is a definite possibility."

The title defense was the 10th straight for Sosa since he fought Viloria for the WBC title belt in 2007, a fight that ended in a majority decision in the Mexican’s favor. During that two-year stretch, Sosa defeated two other Filipino campaigners along the way in Sonny Boy Jaro (unanimous decision) and Juanito Rubillar (TKO 7th round). He also beat Jesus Iribe (unanimous decision), the same fighter decisioned by Viloria in his last defense of the International Boxing Federation (IBF) light-flyweight crown in Honolulu, Hawaii. Viloria is eyeing a fight with Calderon by the end of the year after the Puerto Rican champion repeated over Filipino Rodel Mayol (technical split decision) in their title bout last week. But the 28-year-old champ dubbed “The Hawaiian Punch" said he’s also not discounting another face-off with Sosa, one of only two fighters who inflicted him a loss in his professional career. Sosa appears to be leaning on another showdown with Viloria. “After that (Viloria fight), we are definitely looking for Edgar to move up and go after the WBC flyweight belt in 2010," said Deschamps.
