Cotabato quakes hurt 2, cause P4-million damage


Two people were reported injured while around P4.188 million in damage to property was recorded as quakes hit parts of Mindanao Friday and Saturday. However, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) said the extent of damage to property may still go up upon completion of the ongoing assessment. The NDCC’s report at 8 p.m. on Saturday identified the injured as Helen Apolinario, 48; and Editha Servando, 53, both of Panay village in Santo Niño town in South Cotabato. It said the two sustained "minor" injuries. On the other hand, the NDCC said two houses were destroyed and 36 houses and two commercial buildings damaged in Poblacion village in Norala town in South Cotabato. At least 40 houses and a concrete fence of Panay National High School were damaged in Panay village in Santo Niño town. Damage to properties in Poblacion village was estimated at P2.088 million, while that of Panay village was at P2.1 million. The NDCC said the first quake struck at 7:53 p.m. Friday, and was felt at Intensity IV in Tacurong City and Isulan in Sultan Kudarat; Koronadal City and Polomolok, South Cotabato; Intensity III in General Santos City, Cotabato City, Digos City, Davao City and Kabakan, North Cotabato; and Intensity II in Matan-ao, Davao del Sur and Kidapawan City. A second quake was felt at 9:41 a.m. Saturday and was felt at Intensity IV in Koronadal, South Cotabato; Intensity III in General Santos City and Polomolok, South Cotabato. - GMANews.TV
