Sen. Pangilinan: I will support the Noynoy-Mar tandem

A known aspirant for the country's second highest post said Sunday that he is willing to support Senators Benigno “Noynoy" Aquino III-Manuel “Mar" Roxas II tandem for the 2010 elections. In an interview on dzBB radio, Sen. Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan hinted that although the official announcement will be done on Monday, it is most likely a "Noynoy-Mar" tandem for the Liberal Party in the 2010 polls. Pangilinan said “pinagkatiwalaan na natin si Sen. Aquino sa pagpili kung sino ang nararapat. At sinabi ko na sa kanya na kung sino man ang piliin niya, para magkaisa lahat, ay handa naman tayo isantabi ang ating mga plano." (We trust Sen. Aquino’s decision to choose who is right for the position. I told him that I am willing to forgo my aspirations for the vice presidency if he chooses someone else in order to maintain unity in the party.) He added that the widespread support for Aquino’s candidacy makes the senator's bid a “people-driven campaign," as opposed to the usual “politic-driven campaign." Pangilinan said “kapag iba ang paraan ng pagka-panalo, ibang paraan din ang pamamahala (If the way you won is different, your way of governing will be different as well)… if you win with the people’s support, you owe your mandate to the people," he said, believing that with the Aquino-Roxas tandem, the country will achieve genuine change. The senator reiterated that he will support the Liberal Party ticket, and that he is not attached to holding a political position, but is more interested in realizing changes in the nation. Aquino declared that he has offered Roxas the vice-presidential position after the latter made a “sacrifice" of withdrawing his bid for the presidency to let Aquino run.
