Villar party denies offering elective post to Willie Revillame

ABS-CBN television host Willie Revillame was never offered to be a candidate under the Nacionalista Party’s banner, the party’s spokesperson said Monday. "Not once na pinag-usapan ‘yan. Kaya sa lahat ng nag-titsismis diyan, wala po’ng katotohanan ‘yon (Not once did the party discuss the matter. So to all those spreading those rumors, there is no truth to what you are saying)," said Gilbert Remulla in an interview on GMA’s Unang Hirit. After an indefinite leave of absence, Revillame will return to his noontime show “Wowowee" on Monday. Talks are rife that he would make an announcement on his possible political plans for the 2010 elections. In a media interview last month, Nacionalista Party (NP) standard bearer Senator Manuel Villar Jr. hinted that the host deserved to seek a senatorial candidacy. ‘Yon ay isang bagay na dapat niyang pag-isipan," Villar said when asked whether he was willing to include Revillame in his party’s senatorial lineup. (Willie is very qualified. I do not see any problem with him, so this should be a matter that he should think about.) Villar made the statement shortly after Revillame went on a voluntary indefinite leave. Revillame drew flak when he demanded, on-air, that the live-feed inset of President Corazon Aquino's cortege last August 3 be removed while the “Wowowee" show was on the air. At the time, the remains of Mrs. Aquino were being transferred from the La Salle Greenhills gymnasium to the Manila Cathedral. Okay?" Revillame said. Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) chair Consoliza Laguardia said Revillame violated the broadcast code of ethics while the National Press Club criticized the host for his “arrogance." The Aquino family, however, said they already accepted Revillame’s apology. “I can speak on behalf of myself, my sisters and my brother… we accept his apology," said Kris Aquino-Yap, Mrs. Aquino’s youngest child. - Sophia Dedace with Amita O.
