A mentally deranged man on Tuesday morning beheaded his parents and cooked his father's head in a frenzied attack in the central Philippine province of Capiz, police said.

Fernan dela Vega, 25, "hammered, hacked, and stabbed" his father, Federico and mother, Edita, using an ax, a sugar cane bolo (machete), and a knife at about 7 a.m. in Barangay Linampungan, Pontevedra town, said police officer Reyann Ampusos of the municipal police station.

Edita’s body was found inside their house with a broken head, while the headless body of Federico was found in the kitchen. Ampuyos said Federico's head was cut and cooked with seasonings.

Investigators SPO1 Leony Dalibas and PO3 Romeo Dalibas said the motive behind the attack was insanity.

The victims' bodies now lie at a nearby funeral home. Fernan, meanwhile, is now under the custody of the police. - GMANews.TV
