iRemit waives remittance fees for Ondoy victims

Starting October 1, Wednesday, to October 5, Monday, I-Remit Inc. will waive money transfer fees charged to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) sending cash to their families affected by storm Ondoy. iRemit, the largest Filipino-owned non-bank remittance company, also waived fees for donations sent to institutions participating in relief efforts for those disturbed by the storm. All of iRemit's overseas outlets were earlier authorized to accept donations direct to bank accounts of the GMA Kapuso Foundation, the Philippine National Red Cross, and the ABS-CBN Foundation. iRemit employees also assisted in mobilizing relief supplies as early as Monday, two days after Ondoy submerged 80 percent of the Philippine capital in water. “iRemit commiserates with the families who suffered losses in varying degrees during the storm," Harris Jacildo, iRemit president and chief operating officer said in a statement. "The whole organization including its employees responded to the appeal of media and other institutions for nationwide assistance to the affected individuals and families." - GMANews.TV
