Pacquiao to join PMA cadets in daily jog

FORT DEL PILAR, Baguio City – People’s champ Manny Pacquiao is set to jog with Philippine Military Academy (PMA) cadets in preparation for his fight with Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto. Information chief captain Agnes Lynette Flores said the reigning pound-for-pound king is set to follow the daily regimen of PMA cadets who wake up at 5 a.m. everyday to jog around the military camp “It is an-hour-and-a-half of intense jogging." Set at 5:30 am, Paquiao will jog with the 200-member strong cadet core and PMA administrative officials. PMA commandant of cadets Fred Peralta and Col. Paul Adan will head the delegation.

PMA Rear Admiral Leandro Calderon is in Manila for a command conference and cannot join Team Paquiao’s PMA run. Flores said if Paquiao feels comfortable inside the military grounds, then he could continue with his training there. “We would be able to accommodate him here," Paquiao will be given the PMA command athletics uniform for his early morning jog. Team Pacquiao has been training at the Shape Up Gym at the Cooyesan Hotel Plaza where the Filipino ring icon started sparring with unbeaten junior middleweight prospect Shawn Porter. Lightweight Urbano Antillon, a regular Pacquiao spar mate, is on standby as well as David Rodela and Puerto Rican Raymond Tito Serrano. Sparring sessions with the foreign boxers will be done in a staggered manner so as not to overwork the champion and to allow him to reach his peak form during the fight. Sparring will be held Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays with the number of rounds gradually increasing by the day until it reaches a full 12 rounds per day. As the 12-round fight nears, sparring gradually tapers off. – GMANews.TV
