Francisco foe Vasquez faces uncertain future

Drian Francisco’s technical knockout win over Roberto Vasquez may result to the Panamanian boxer's early retirement from the sport. Carlos Gonzales, who manages Vasquez’ boxing career, said that he will have to sit down with his ward to determine what’s his next plans are. "We have to sit down and discuss what’s next for him. We have to know what he wants to do with his career."

The Vasquez camp was disappointed with the former two-division champion’s performance due to weight problems. This is not the first time that Vasquez struggled with his weight but the latest predicament tolled heavily on the 26-year-old Panamanian boxer since absorbing his first ever KO loss since his debut in 2001. Vasquez has compiled 27 wins and four defeats but his first three losses were by unanimous decision. His last defeat happened against Mexican Hugo Fidel Cazares last March 24, to remain winless this year. Should he decide to continue with his boxing career, Gonzales said that his fighter must prove he deserves another crack. "He has to take it very seriously and try to be a little bit more disciplined." Vasquez came overweight by 1 1/2 lbs for the 115-lb showdown during Friday's weigh-in. He managed to get the exact weight after an hour at the sauna but drank a lot of fluids to put his weight at 134 lbs at fight night. Team Vasquez is set to depart for Panama City early Sunday morning. – GMANews.TV
