Not only did typhoon "Pepeng' cause prices of vegetables to sky-rocket in Metro Manila, it also triggered an increase in the prices of flowers coming from northern Philippines.
Radio dzBB’s Roland Bola reported Tuesday that in Manila, the prices of flowers, especially those from the north, spiked to nearly three times their normal prices.
At the Dangwa area in Manila’s Dimasalang district, prices of flowers from Baguio and Benguet went up from P60 to about P200 a dozen.
Some flower vendors resorted to selling orchids imported from Thailand due to the lack of supply, while others temporarily closed shop.
Flower vendors in Manila are preparing to sell flower arrangements for the coming All Saints weekend. The flowers then find their way in cemeteries either within Metro Manila or in the provinces.
