2 Pinoys fished out of Pacific Ocean after almost 2 months

Two Filipino fishermen who drifted into the Pacific Ocean for almost two months have been rescued by a Japanese vessel, the Department of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday. According to the DFA, the Tokiwa Maru No. 18 was en route to Pohnpei in the Federated State of Micronesia on Oct. 14 when it spotted Toto Feliciano and Resty Dabon floating aimlessly at sea on their fishing boat. The two fishermen from General Santos City in southern Philippines would be repatriated to the Philippines. “Upon learning of the rescue from the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo, the DFA’s Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs (Oumwa) immediately alerted the Embassy in Koror (Micronesia) to assist the two Filipino fishermen," the DFA said. After being found to be in good shape at the Pohnpei State Hospital, the fishermen were temporarily sheltered at the residence of Gerard Roque Figueras, president of the United Filipino Community in Pohnpei. “The DFA, through the Philippine Embassy in Koror, will repatriate two Filipino fishermen," the DFA added. - Joseph Holandes Ubalde, GMANews.TV
