Authorities still clueless on Sinnott kidnap case

(Updated 5:50 p.m.) Local authorities in Pagadian City are still clueless about the whereabouts of Irish priest Michael Sinnott two weeks after his abduction. “Sad to say, this is day 14 but until now we have no clear information as to his whereabouts and we still have no contact with the abductors. Until now, we have yet to get an update," said Allan June Molde, the spokesman of the crisis management committee handling the case. Sinnott, 79, was snatched by at least six suspects from his house last October 11 in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur. Authorities said he may have been kidnapped by a group of pirates led by one Guingona Samal. The lack of information regarding the case is making members of the committee "worried," Molde said. “We are quite puzzled and worried why 14 days after, we still have no solid information as to whereabouts, who are his abductors although I believe authorities are following up certain leads," he said. He said authorities have put up three “containment areas" in possible locations of Sinnott and his captors in the provinces of Zamboanga del Sur, Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur despite having no concrete information on Sinnott’s exact location. “Our operations are ongoing and we just hope that we can get positive results soon," Molde said. He confirmed that the local authorities of the Diocese of Pagadian have been trying to send medicines for the ailing missionary, who underwent a heart bypass operation weeks before his abduction. - GMANews.TV
