The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) has softened its stand as far as sending athletes to the Laos SEA Games is concerned.
PSC chairman Harry Angping said Tuesday that they might include other athletes who were not part in the initial 153 list who passed the gold and silver medal criteria set by the government’s funding arm for sports.
But Angping, who graced the PSA Forum, stressed that these new athletes must also conform to their criteria.
“There is always a motion for reconsideration. The PSC is ready to accommodate additional athletes provided they passed the gold and silver criteria. If some of them are short by just few seconds, we will consider them to the team," said Angping.
During the last talks with Laos SEAG Chief of Mission Mario Tanchangco of sepak takraw, Angping said the PSC will only be funding a lean RP contingent to the 25th edition of the biennial meet set from December 9 to 18 in Vientiane.
The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), however, insisted the said number has yet to be approved by their executive board. The POC has reiterated that they have the sole jurisdiction in naming the country’s delegation to International Olympic Committee (IOC)-sanctioned competitions such as the SEA Games.

The POC has approved a 213 contingent and has asked the PSC to fund the remaining 50 athletes.
Angping stressed that all 153 athletes are qualified and capable of winning medals. “We have the records of all the 153 athletes and I sincerely believe they are capable of achieving a best ever showing for the Philippines in Laos. But the PSC is not for exclusion and we will allow inclusion of new athletes provided they are capable of winning." – GMANews.TV
