The animosity between the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) continued Wednesday after POC president Jose “Peping" Cojuangco said that he hopes his agency would become less dependent on the PSC.
Cojuangco said it is about time the POC seek support from the private sector to free them from relying too much on the government’s sports arm.

“It’s really quite pleasing on the part of the POC to have started a program which we have envisioned for quite some time through established partnerships with private sector to reduce our dependency on developing sports from the government," said Cojuangco.
Recently, the POC and PSC have once again been at odds regarding the selection process for the country’s participation in the Asian Indoor Games in Hanoi and the Laos Southeast Asian Games.
Disregarding the POC’s endorsement of a bigger Philippine delegation, PSC chairman Harry Angping decided to support a limited number of athletes in both competitions.
Cojuangco said they would follow PSC’s move of sending a lean team provided that they would let the POC select the names of the competing athletes.
“Payag kami na sundin sila (PSC) sa number ng delegations na gusto nilang suportahan. Pero kailangang ang POC ang siyang maglalagay ng pangalan ng mga atletang ipadadala at hindi sila (We would go along with their plans on the number of athletes that they would support but it must be the POC who would put the names of athletes who will be competing)," said Cojuangco.
The Asian Indoor Games will take place in Hanoi, Vietnam from Oct. 30 to Nov. 8 while the SEA Games will be held from Dec. 9 to 18 in Vientiane.

Cojuangco added that the POC also got China-based company, 361 Degrees Co. Ltd, as the official outfitter of the Philippine team in the biennial meet.
Angping, however, announced during Tuesday’s PSA Forum that local sports apparel maker Accell will provide the uniforms for Team Philippines where they chose the color yellow for the parade jersey that they would be wearing in the opening of the SEA Games.
Earlier, Angping said that the PSC is open to work closely with the POC to further develop the country’s sports program.
However, Cojuangco said that if Angping was sincere with his intensions he would not make any announcement with the media and would approach him directly so they can sort out their problems. – GMANews.TV
