Seven people, most of them children, were seriously hurt Monday in a grenade-throwing incident in Cotabato city in southern Philippines, a police official said.
Senior Superintendent Willie Dangane, chief of the Cotabato City Police, identified the casualties as Babo Angki Radjab, 75 years old; Felma Adges, 45; Norhaya Adges, 11 Papikan Mohidin, 7; Bai Unggui Adges, 6; Bai Pua Sampulna, 6; and Bai Lani Sampulna, 4.
All the victims were rushed to Cotabato Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Dangane said the incident occurred at the house of one Kentia Sampulna alias Lacson at Purok Imba in Rosary Heights at about 1:05 p.m.
“(Sampulna) arrived in his residence and after few minutes a hard object was heard thrown on the rooftop. (The object) subsequently exploded," Dangane said, adding that one of the two suspects has been identified as Omar Mabang.
The official said they are not dismissing the drug angle as motive in the incident, as Salpulna is reportedly known in the area as a notorious drug dealer.
