With consumers starting their Christmas shopping, Metro Manila police have planned a series of joint exercises with security personnel in malls and big business establishments.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Chief Superintendent Roberto Rosales on Tuesday said the joint simulated exercises aim to test the reactions of security guards in various scenarios.
“Sasanayin namin ang reaction ng security guard at ng pulis sa iba’t ibang scenario, lalo na papalapit ang Pasko, para makita ang kahandaan ng pulis," Rosales said in an interview on dzRH radio.
(We will test the reactions of security guards and police in different scenarios, especially now that the Christmas season is approaching. We want to make sure we are ready.)
He said he went around malls last All Saints’ weekend to observe how security guards inspect the belongings of customers going inside establishments.
He added that he had to approach some of the guards to teach them how to inspect customers’ items correctly.
Also, he said the joint exercises will complement increased police visibility in Metro Manila during the Christmas season.
“We’ve been adopting an anti-criminality plan, pag-igihan namin ito. Mas maiging makita ang police presence sa kalye (We have been adopting an anti-criminality plan, and we want to improve on it. You will see more police presence in the streets)," he said.
Metro Manila police stressed the need for more cooperation with security personnel in malls following a heist by the Alvin Flores Gang in Makati City last October 18.
Rosales likewise stressed the need for police to maintain high visibility in all areas, following an ambush-robbery along Roxas Boulevard last Sunday. - GMANews.TV
