Pagasa warns of more rains, big waves in RP

Even if there is no cyclone threatening the country for now, more rains and big waves loom over parts of the country, state weather forecasters said Thursday.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration forecaster Elvie Enriquez also warned of gale-force winds in parts of Northern and Central Luzon.

“Magkakaulan lalo na sa Eastern Luzon. Dito sa Kalakhang Maynila, magkakaroon din ng mga maulap na papawirin at inaasahan ang pag-ulan tulad ng nangyari kahapon subali’t di ito kalakasan. Malamig na ang panahon (There will be rains especially in Eastern Luzon. In Metro Manila, there will be rains as what happened Wednesday, but there will be no heavy downpours. The weather will also be cold)," Enriquez said in an interview on dzBB radio.

Enriquez also said of a cold wave in Northern Luzon, with temperatures likely to fall to as low as 15 degrees Celsius in Baguio City.

In a separate interview on dzXL radio, Pagasa head Prisco Nilo said heavy rains are likely in parts of Luzon including Bicol and in Eastern Visayas.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Coordinating Council instructed five regions to take precautionary measures in the wake of heavy monsoon rains since late Tuesday.

The NDCC, in its 5 p.m. Wednesday report, said its Operations Center advised the Office of the Civil Defense in Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Metro Manila and Cordillera to monitor the flooding situation.

In its 5 a.m. bulletin, on the other hand, Pagasa said the northeast monsoon will continue to affect Luzon and Visayas, while a wind convergence will affect Mindanao.

“Central and Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and isolated thunderstorms becoming widespread rains over the eastern sections which may trigger flashfloods and landslides," it said.

Northern Luzon will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers, it added. - GMANews.TV
