BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya – Two members of the Philippine National Police in the northern province of Isabela are in hot water for turning a happy wedding party into a terrifying event after they allegedly poked their guns at guests.
Reports said barangay tanods (village sentries) and guests saw PO1 Rommel Balanay and PO3 Alex Sagabaen, in civilian clothes and with their side arms bulging at their sides, enter the area where a wedding reception was being held at Yeban Sur, Benito Soliven town.
Balanay, a member of the Anti-illegal Logging Task Force, reportedly shoved a guest who tried to pacify him, pulled out his gun then pointed it Carlito Reyes, local Liga ng mga Barangay (League of Villages) president.
Sagabaen reportedly followed suit by poking his gun at a barangay tanod identified as Marcelo Lucas, who was with his colleagues who came to the rescue of Reyes.
The two were overpowered by the crowd and their firearms, a .45 cal. pistol and a .38 cal. revolver, seized.
Sr. Supt. Jaime Rivera, Isabela police director, said the suspects have been relieved of their posts and are now restricted inside the Police Provincial Office pending result of the investigation.
Alarm and scandal charges were filed against Sagabaen, while Balanay’s case is still under review. - Floro Taguinod, GMANews.TV
