The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) remained firm that they will only fund 153 athletes and 47 officials bound for the 2009 Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) in Laos.
In a letter to chief of mission Mario Tanchanco, PSC chairman Harry Angping reiterated that the government sports agency will only support athletes that he and RP Chef de Mission Mario Tanchangco agreed upon during their Oct. 14 meeting.

“We would like to categorically state that the PSC remains firm in its stand to finance only those in the final listing that we agreed upon during our meeting," said Angping in the letter dated Nov. 4.
The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) submitted a list of 251 athletes, 125 support staff members and 10 officials as Team Philippines’ official line-up to the Laos SEA Games slated from December 9 to 18.
“Considering the lateness of the changes that the POC would like to make, additional procurement of equipment and apparels and adjustments to all necessary arrangements that we have undertaken are highly impracticable," said Angping.
After the Oct. 14 meeting, Tanchanco, the POC second vice president, retracted his statements that the PSC and POC approved the 153 athletes and 47 officials and said that he was merely acting as an observer during the meeting.
“We were surprised that you gave contrasting position, as well as feedbacks that the number of participating athletes will be increased to 213. We were also very much saddened because we got the information merely from newspaper articles," said Angping. – GMANews.TV
