Malacañang is still waiting for the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) to finish its assessment of areas where an executive order imposing oil price freeze is in effect.
Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita on Thursday said that President Arroyo will decide on what areas the Executive Order 839 will be lifted based on the NDCC’s recommendations.
“For now we are still waiting for the NDCC to finish its assessment of calamity areas covered by the EO," he said in an interview on dzXL radio.
But he hinted that the EO, which sets prices of fuel products to the October 15 levels, will likely remain in effect over several areas in the Cordillera, Central Luzon and Southern Luzon where rehabilitation from recent cyclones is still ongoing.
Among these are Baguio, Zambales, Quezon, and some parts of Laguna, he said.
“We will see what areas are still in need of rehabilitation from past cyclones. Based on that, the president will decide where to lift the EO," he added.
Fuel companies and some business groups had called for the lifting of the EO, following a shortage of fuel supplies resulting from price cap on fuel prices in Luzon.
