After several humid nights, Filipinos can expect cold nights to return this weekend, state weather forecasters said Friday.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the "Amihan" (northeast monsoon) is likely to strengthen in the coming days.

"Baka bukas lalakas na naman ang hanging amihan, malamig na naman po (It is likely the northeast monson will strengthen again so we can have cold mornings again starting Saturday)," Pagasa forecaster Mario Palafox said in an interview on dzBB radio Friday.

Meanwhile, Pagasa's 5 a.m. bulletin indicated a wind convergence is affecting Eastern Visayas and Mindanao.

"Eastern Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms. The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms," it said.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Northern Luzon with moderate to rough seas, it said.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the east and northeast and its coastal waters will be slight to moderate except during thunderstorms. - GMANews.TV
