Stringent airport security further tightened for Arroyo, Clinton departures

The already-stringent security at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) was further tightened for the Friday afternoon departure of the Philippine President and the US Secretary of State.
NAIA personnel prepared for the flight of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who is scheduled to leave at
1 p.m., a report on dzXL radio said.
But Clinton, wearing a black blazer, arrived at NAIA past noon, and held a conversation with the Philippines’ Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo.
She waved at Filipino well-wishers at the airport before boarding her plane at 12:21 p.m.
US Ambassador Kristie Ann Kenney and Philippine Ambassador to the US Willy Gaa, along with a senior airport official, also escorted her to her plane.
Clinton, who ended her lightning visit to the country, arrived at 1 p.m. on Thursday aboard a US 757 jet.
She is to fly to Singapore for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting.
Later in the afternoon, President Arroyo will also leave for Singapore to attend the APEC meeting.
