Cold front brings chilly mornings to Luzon

A diffused tail-end of a cold front brought chilly morning to Luzon Sunday, even as state weather forecasters warned of scattered rainshowers during the day.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration also said an Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is affecting Mindanao.

“Northeastern Luzon will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers. Mindanao will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms. The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms," Pagasa said in its 5 a.m. bulletin.

It said moderate to strong winds blowing from the Northeast will prevail over Northern Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the Northeast with slight to moderate seas except during thunderstorms.

Last Saturday, Pagasa weather services bureau head Nathaniel Cruz warned two to three cyclones are due in November-December.

“In November and December we expect two cyclones to enter our area of responsibility. We should be doubly alert. And this time, we expect the cyclones to pass through the Visayas and Mindanao," Cruz said on government-run dzRB radio.

Cyclones that might enter Philippine territory for the rest of the year will be named Urduja, Vinta, Wilma, Yolanda, and Zoraida.

An earlier Pagasa advisory indicated there will be little rain due to a mild El Niño that may last until early 2010.

“The weather systems that are expected to affect the country in November are the northeast monsoon, the ITCZ, easterly wave, and tail-end of the cold front and the passage of two or three tropical cyclones," it said in its advisory for November. - GMANews.TV
