Erap, Teodoro unfazed by low Pulse Asia ratings

Prospective presidential candidates Joseph Estrada and Gilberto Teodoro Jr. remained unfazed over the recent Pulse Asia ratings showing them lagging behind front-runner Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III as the most favored presidential candidate to win in the May 2010 elections.
In separate interviews Tuesday, both Estrada and Teodoro expressed confidence that their respective poll rating will improve in the coming days.
"Elections are still six months away. It is still unpredictable as the people are not really decided yet whom to vote," said Estrada, a former president who topped popularity surveys prior to winning the 1998 elections.
For his part, Teodoro, who recently relinquished his Cabinet post as defense secretary, said: "Ako, madi-discourage? Hindi (I won’t get discouraged with the survey result)," even pointing out that during his stint at the defense department, he was able to deal with several disasters including Tropical Storm Ondoy and Typhoon Pepeng.
In a survey for the most preferred presidential bet conducted by Pulse Asia from October 22-30, Aquino topped the list with 44 percent followed by Senator Manuel Villar Jr. (19 percent), Senator Francis Escudero (13 percent) and Estrada (11 percent). Those who ranked below 10 percent were: Vice President Noli de Castro (4 percent); Teodoro (2 percent); and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chairman Bayanni Fernando and religious leader Eddie Villanueva who both got 1 percent.
The survey was conducted among 1,800 adults and had a margin of error of 2.
Infomercials
In the interview, Estrada said he will only believe the survey results to be released in March and April next year "because by that time the people...have already decided whom to vote."
He noted that a year ago, it was De Castro who was leading the surveys, but "now it's a different story."
Estrada added that his rating will improve once his infomercials air next week. "I want to peak from January to February. I don't want to peak too early."
"I've been in almost 74 provinces, and many people came during my visits even if they were not notified," he said.
He attributed his low ratings to the issues being hurled against him, including his questionable candidacy and his alleged involved in the Dacer-Corbito double murder case. - GMANews.TV
