Suspects in Basilan kidnapping face criminal raps

A group allegedly behind the kidnapping of three Chinese and Filipino plywood factory workers in Basilan province were slapped with criminal charges on Tuesday.
The suspects, composed of about 30 individuals, were charged with kidnapping and illegal detention, according to Chief Supt. Leonardo Espina, spokesperson of the Philippine National Police .
Among the respondents are Mujahid Nasirin, Amilhuisn Insoh, Danile Musa, Omar Musa, Purudji Indama, Moton Indama, Hud Limaya, Adam Mingkong, Muktar Abon, Ismael Sakkam, Nasser Butug.
Also charged were 17 others identified only through their aliases and several John Does. The case was filed at the Basilan Provincial Prosecutros IOffice in Isabela City.
The charges stemmed from the November 10 kidnapping of Michael Tan, Oscar Dee alias Oscar Lu, and Mark Singson in Sitio Tehem, Barangay Buto, Townsite, Maluso, Basilan.
Authorities are hunting down the suspects, focusing their pursuit operations in Basilan's Sumisip and Tipo-Tipo towns.
The military earlier said that three of the suspects were members of the al-Qaeda-linked bandit group Abu Sayyaf also blamed for the abduction and beheading of school principal Gabriel "Bong" Canizares. - MARK D. MERUEÑAS, GMANews.TV
