RP lifts ban on US meat, bone meal imports

The Philippines’ Department of Agriculture (DA) has lifted a temporary import ban on meat and bone meal from the United States. The decision was announced after global health authorities said that mad-cow disease in the US now has a “controlled risk status." This means that “there has been no case of BSE [Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy] or, if there has been a case, every case of BSE has been demonstrated to have been imported and has been completely destroyed," the DA said in a statement. The World Animal Health Organization or the Office International des Epizooties (OIE) has adopted a resolution recognizing the United States of America (USA) as "(BSE) controlled risk" based on the provisions of the OIE's Terrestrial Code, the DA said. - GMANews.TV
