RP official: Gov't willing to help ill boxer Gorres
November 17, 2009 20:10:42
Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said the administration is willing to help Filipino boxer Z “The Dream" Gorres, who underwent emergency surgery after being hospitalized in Las Vegas following his victory against Colombian boxer Luis Melendez, in any possible way.
Remonde, however, did not specify the government will extend to Gorres.
"The government is wiling to give him any and all assistance that he deserves which is in accordance with law and definitely we want to take care of them because we want to produce more Manny Pacquiaos in the future," Remonde said.
Gorres underwent surgery after his 10-round bout against Melendez. He was rushed at the University Medical Center in Las Vegas to remove a blood clot on the left side of his brain.
He remains under observation at the intensive care unit of UMC but is already in stable condition. He suffered a subdural hematoma (traumatic brain injury).
Gorres’ condition continues to improve and on Tuesday (Manila time) the Cebu-based boxer already opened his left eye and made the thumbs-up sign with his right hand when trainer Edito Villamor asked how he feels.
“Z’s progress has continued to be very good. The brain pressure has remained stable. Monitoring was not needed anymore," ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer said in a press statement posted on FightFan.com. – GMANews.TV
