Report: 4 hurt in early morning demolition in Pasay

At least four people were reported hurt as tension marred the demolition of shanties near a mosque in southern Metro Manila early Wednesday morning. Radio dzBB's Denver Trinidad reported that Muslim residents pelted riot police and demolition team members with stones to prevent them from destroying their homes. The incident occurred near the mosque in Baclaran in Pasay City. Hit with rocks were an official of Pasay City Hall and at least two members of the demolition team, the report said. At least one of the stone-throwing residents was grazed when one of the riot police fired a warning shot, the report added. Despite the stone-throwing, the report said the demolition team backed by up to 800 policemen and traffic enforcers managed to get to the site and start the demolition. - GMANews.TV
