Well-rested Realtors trounce Kings in Philippine Cup

A well-rested Sta. Lucia came out with plenty to spare against a banged-up Barangay Ginebra squad as the Realtors, playing with more energy, coasted to a 93-72 win over the Kings Wednesday night at the Araneta Coliseum.
Kelly Williams finished with 26 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks to trigger the Realtors’ domination against the Kings, whose three-game winning streak ended with the loss.
The Gin Kings are coming off a tense 83-79 win over the Burger King Whopper in Lanao Del Norte and appeared to lack the energy to compete against the rejuvenated Realtors.
Games Friday
(Araneta Coliseum)
2:30 p.m. – Smart Gilas vs Rain or Shine
5 p.m. – Barako Bull vs Burger King
7:30 p.m. – Talk 'N Text vs Alaska
The Realtors held the Kings to just nine points in the second period as Sta. Lucia took a 50-30 lead and was never threatened after that.
Sta. Lucia did not slowed down and even limited Ginebra to a 29 percent shooting in the third and was still leading at 69-48 with 1:27 left in the same period.
“Kelly played an inspired game tonight. Maybe because he’s now a new father," said Sta. Lucia coach Boyet Fernandez, whose Realtors quashed the Kings’ chances of mounting a rally.
“Our team is coming off a morale-boosting win over Smart-Gilas last time and we appeared ready against Ginebra. But it’s still a long way to go. This team is still a work in progress and we haven’t executed our plays with cohesion," added Fernandez.
Earlier, Burger King scored a 106-97 decision against Coca-Cola to end a three-game skid.

“It’s really hard to break out of a slump," Guiao told sportswriters shortly after steering his team to its first win in Metro Manila. The Whopper’s first officially victory of the season happened in Gingoog City, an 81-79 squeaker against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.
Mark Yee finished with a career-high 19 points, including 17 in the fourth period as he nearly outscored the entire Tigers squad in the final 12 minutes.
The last time Guiao was inside the PBA press room was during the Burger King-Smart Gilas game where veteran guard Wynne Arboleda attacked a PBA fan that resulted to his season-long ban.
“Our confidence is so low after we lost three straight games. Somehow, the morale-zapping incidents like what happened with Japeth Aguilar and Wynne Arboleda had somehow affected us a bit," said Guiao. “But we’re not giving up this conference. I hope this will be a stepping stone to get our old selves back."
Aguilar, drafted No.1 overall in the rookie draft this season by the Whopper, turned his back on his PBA team to pursue a career with Smart Gilas. The incident nearly stained the good relationship between the PBA and the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), to which the pro league is a stakeholder.
