VP bet Edu confirms breakup with GF Pinky Webb

Vice presidential aspirant Eduardo “Edu" Manzano on Thursday confirmed his breakup with his girlfriend of five years, television personality Pinky Webb. “Unfortunately, that is true," Manzano said on the sidelines of the national convention of the Lakas-Kampi-CMD party where his tandem with former Defense chief Gilberto Teodoro Jr. for the 2010 elections was formally declared. The interview was aired over GMA News’ “24 Oras" Thursday night. Manzano, who recently quit his post as chairman of the Optical Media Board to prepare for his candidacy, refused to give details on the breakup. "I'd rather not comment on it. It's not relevant to the campaign," he told GMANews.TV in a phone interview. Manzano and Webb, daughter of former senator and professional basketball player Freddie Webb, are both co-hosts of ABS-CBN's morning news show "Umagang Kay Ganda." Entertainment columnist Ricky Lo broke the news on the day Manzano was officially endorsed by the ruling party, but said neither politics nor a "third party" had anything to do with the breakup. Manzano had spoken in the past of getting married to Webb. Last Friday, Lakas-Kampi-CMD officials announced that Manzano will be the party's vice presidential bet in the 2010 elections. Manzano said he had been discussing the plan for months with party official Interior Secretary Ronaldo Puno. - GMANews.TV
