Mom to Pacquiao: Retire or I'll gatecrash fight with Mayweather

There’s one person in the world who doesn’t want newly-crowned WBO champion Manny Pacquiao to forge a showdown with unbeaten American Floyd Mayweather, Jr. It’s none other than the Pacman’s mother, Dionisia. Now a celebrity in her own right, the bubbly Pacquiao matriarch has requested the world’s top pound-for-pound fighter to hang up his gloves altogether after his bloody TKO win over Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico. And should her call fall on deaf ears, “Mommy D" threatened to climb the ring against Mayweather!

“Kung ako masusunod, ayoko na talagang ilaban siya kay Mayweathger, tama na itong laban na ito (Cotto fight)," Dionisia said Friday in an interview with Unang Hirit. “Pag lumaban pa siya, haharap na ako nang personal, aakyat ako sa taas ng ring, bahala ka na kung ma-disqualify kayo. Pag di ka titigil aakyat ako, ako ang lalaban kay Mayweather!" she said then let out a hearty laugh. Of course, doing that is highly-impossible as she does not watch Manny’s fights at the arena, preferring to spend the whole time praying for her son’s victory and safety in her hotel room. “Pac Mom" said her son has had enough of his share of pounding in the ring, having been in prizefighting since his teenage years. “Pagkatapos ng laban kay Cotto, nakita ko bugbog-sarado ang mukha niya, andaming pasa, maga pa tenga. Napaiyak nga kami pati si Jinkee, " she said, adding she even relayed her request to Manny’s trainer Freddie Roach and her son’s buddy Buboy Fernandez. The Pacman said he’s considering his mom’s appeal but hinted that he still has at least one more fight in him. “Pinag-isipan ko rin kasi magulang ko yan, nirespeto ko," he said upon his arrival at the NAIA terminal 2 early Friday. Pacquiao, though, is also seriously considering a big-moneyed fight with Mayweather next year – that is if both camps would meet halfway, especially in terms of purse share. Another factor that might speed up Pacquiao’s retirement is his plan to pursue a congressional seat in Sarangani in the May 2010 elections. - Olmin R. Leyba, GMANews.TV
