Noynoy tops polls again, this time in Davao City, Batangas


He is on top again, this time in Davao City and Batangas province, enjoying a consistently wide margin over his opponents. Results of recent surveys conducted in the said areas show that Liberal Party (LP) standard-bearer, Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" Aquino is the most preferred presidential aspirant in the 2010 polls. More than half or 52 percent of the 6,000 respondents in Davao City wants Aquino to become president, while in Batangas, 58 percent of the 800 respondents also wants to see the senator become the country's 15th chief executive. Since he declared his intention to run for president last September 9, Aquino has been topping surveys conducted by pollsters Social Weather Stations and Pulse Asia, locking his position as the front-runner in the coming elections. FOR GMANEWS.TV'S 2010 ELECTION COVERAGE, VISIT YOURVOX The Batangas poll was conducted by the group of the province's vice governor, Marc Leviste, from November 15 to 16, while the survey in Davao City was done by the camp of businessman Jesus "Chito" Ayala sometime in the last two weeks, according to LP campaign manager Florencio "Butch" Abad. Erap is closest rival Joseph Estrada is the closest opponent of Aquino, based on the results of both surveys. The former president got 17.25 percent in Davao City, and a far 8 percent in Batangas. In the Davao City survey, Sen. Manuel Villar Jr is the third choice, with 13.56 percent, while in Batangas, it is Sen. Francis "Chiz" Escudero with seven percent. Gibo falls behind Gilberto "Gibo" Teodoro Jr, standard-bearer of the ruling party, Lakas-Kampi-CMD, lagged in both polls, as well as two other presidential aspirants from the Arroyo administration. Teodoro only got 4.99 percent in Davao; and a measly 1 percent in Batangas. In the Davao City poll, former Public Works and Highways Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane got 0.56 percent, while Bayani Fernando, chairman of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, had 0.47 percent. Roxas tops VP survey LP vice presidential bet Senator Manuel "Mar" Roxas II also topped the survey in Batangas, leading the pack with 42 percent. Senator Loren Legarda, Villar's running mate, came in second with 14 percent, while Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay, Estrada's running mate, got 9 percent. Vice President Noli de Castro, who has not yet announced his political plans, came in at fourth place with 7 percent, Vilma Santos, who said she would seek reelection as governor, followed with 6 percent. Senator Panfilo Lacson got 2 percent, while administration bet, Edu Manzano, who has a son with Santos, also got 2 percent.
