The November 24 meeting of Palace officials at a world-class tourist destination in the Visayas could be one of the last for some members of the Arroyo Cabinet who will seek elective posts in 2010.
Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said the meeting where reconstruction work in areas devastated by recent tropical cyclones would be taken up, would be held on Boracay Island, home to one of the world's best beaches.
"Sa Martes ang Cabinet meeting, doon isasagawa sa paradise island of Boracay. (The Cabinet meeting this coming Tuesday will be held in the paradise island of Boracay)," Remonde said on Saturday over government-run dzRB radio.
During the Boracay meeting, President Arroyo will also follow up with the pro-performance steering committee the status of her State of the Nation Address projects, according to Remonde.
Among the first ones to leave the Cabinet are Health Secretary Francisco Duque III and Cabinet Secretary Silvestre Bello III who have been included in the senatorial slate of the ruling Lakas-Kampi-CMD party.
Anthony Golez Jr., deputy presidential spokesman, has already left his post. He is running as congressman for the lone district of Bacolod City under the Nationalist People's Coalition.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Bayani Fernando is reportedly still eyeing the presidency, while chief presidential legal counsel Raul Gonzalez will run for Iloilo City mayor.
Presidential Management Staff head Hermogenes Esperon Jr. is reportedly running for a local post in Pangasinan province.
Cabinet members who already resigned and have been replaced include Ralph Recto (socio-economic planning secretary, replaced by Augusto Santos) and Public Works Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. (replaced by Victor Domingo).
Meanwhile, other Cabinet men reportedly eyeing congressional seats include: Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita; Budget Secretay Rolando Andaya; Tourism Secretary Joseph Ace Durano; Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap; Agrarian Reform Secretary Nasser Pangandaman; Secretary Hermogenes Esperon, head of the Presidential Management Staff; Education Secretary Jesli Lapus; and Augusto Syjuco, director general of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority. - GMANews.TV
