Police Investigators have released an artist’s sketch of the suspected gunman in the killing of a Commission on Elections (Comelec) official in Isabela province.
SPO2 Gil Ancheta of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Camp Crame disclosed that witnesses have confirmed that the sketch resembled the facial features of Giovanni Taccad Mendoza, suspect in the killing of election supervisor Atty. Michael Valdez.
Citing witnesses accounts, police pointed out a gun-for-hire group operating in the province as one responsible for the killing of Valdez.
Valdez was shot inside the hotel which he owned in Tumauini town before dawn on October 14.
Chief Supt. Robero Damian, Region 2 police director, said Mendoza who is from Roxas in Isabela, was suspected by the police as the trigger man because text messages from his cellular phone showed him following instructions from somebody he called “sir".
Alleged accomplices to the crime - Harry Taccad and Jessie Carlos Calanday - are now under the custody of Isabela police after the motorcycle used as getaway vehicle during the crime was traced to them. [See: Cops secure witnesses in killing of Isabela poll exec]
Mendoza and other alleged gang members identified as Eric Alzate and Michael Magdangal, aka Lito, a resident of Victoria village in capital town Ilagan, is still subject of manhunt by joint teams from the provincial offices of the Philippine National Police, the CIDG and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). - Floro Taguinod, GMANews.TV
