Amid continued flow of relief assistance from abroad, a group of civic organizations in Taiwan has committed a P2-million relief package to victims of severe flooding spawned by storm Ondoy (Ketsana) last September 26.
Tsai Cheng, president of a group of Rotary clubs Pingtung South, will be coming over to the Philippines on November 25, 2009, after officers of the Rotary Club of Makati Buendia (RCMB) clinched a partnership deal with their counterparts in Taiwan.
Last month, a delegation from RCMB went to Taiwan to forge a partnership deal with Rotary clubs there for the victims of storm Ondoy.
The delegation was composed of RCMB past president Uly Sevilla, club president Bobot Tria, immediate past president Tony Ilagan, president-elect Manny David, director for international service Benny Asuncion, and director for community service Eddie Ong.
“The Taiwan mission aimed to build close linkages with Rotarians there to generate support for rehabilitation efforts in provinces badly hit by killer cyclones of late," Tria said in an interview with GMANews.TV.
Tria said that the P2-million assistance fund from Taiwan will be spent to help in efforts to set up a potable water system in the province of Bulacan, which was hit by runoff floods spawned by typhoon “Pepeng" (Parma).
He added that his group is also targeting constructing classrooms in Albay province, which is still staggering from the impact of typhoon “Reming" in 2006.
A portion of the assistance fund will go to water and sewerage system for the Gawad Kalinga in Parañaque City, he said. - Fernando de la Cruz, GMANews.TV
