Arroyo takes serious look at Pampanga House seat - poll lawyer

If action speaks louder than words, then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's recent "body language" suggests she is seriously considering a congressional seat in the second district of Pampanga province in 2010, said her election lawyer Romulo Macalintal Friday.
“I think her body language shows it. Because of the clamor, she said she is going to give it deeper consideration," he said in an interview in Malacañang.
Mrs. Arroyo has been rumored to be seriously preparing to run for Congress as her allies push for a parliamentary form of government. If the alleged plan succeeds, a pro-Arroyo parliament can then elect her as Prime Minister.
Macalintal and Arroyo met briefly at Malacañang Friday morning where it was expected that the President would announce her plans for 2010.
Macalintal said however that Mrs. Arroyo merely consulted him about her Cabinet members who have filed certificates of candidacy (COCs) for various elective positions, on whether or not they are deemed automatically resigned.
But the clamor for Arroyo's candidacy for next year seems to be gathering steam as the Dec. 1 deadline for the COC filing looms.
On Friday morning, some 200 leaders from farming and fishing communities, as well as representatives from cooperatives and business organizations from the second district of Pampanga went to the Palace to convince Mrs. Arroyo to run in 2010.
Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said the groups were allowed to enter the Palace's secured premises because they “coordinated" with Malacañang authorities.
“They are supporters and do not pose a threat...Otherwise the PSG (Presidential Security Group) will not allow them," Remonde said.
But Remonde stressed that Mrs. Arroyo has yet to bare her political ambitions when she steps down from power next year. [See: Arroyo still mum on political plans for 2010] - JHU, GMANews.TV
