Dureza gets scolding from wife over photos with Ampatuans

Photos of him laughing with members of a clan linked to the November 23 Maguindanao massacre earned presidential adviser on peace Jesus Dureza a scolding from his wife. Dureza admitted in a radio interview Monday his wife Beth called him up after the photos were aired on television news Tuesday last week, and gave him a piece of her mind. “Napaka-insensitive mo naman ... You appeared so insensitive," Dureza recalled his wife telling him, in an interview on dwIZ radio. “Alam ko kung tensyonado ka mag-smile ka pero insensitive ang dating mo sa TV (I know you tend to smile when you are tense but you seemed so insensitive on TV)," he recalled her telling him. Dureza explained that at the time, he and the Ampatuans were teasing each other about having many children. He said that while no media outfit covered his meeting with the Ampatuans, he recalled a member of his party who took photos of that part of the meeting. “Kantyawan namin na maraming anak, lumabas isang picture, na-send pala ... sa TV via cell phone (We were joking about having many children when one of those present took a photo and sent it to a TV network via cell phone)," he said. The photos were aired on GMA television news Tuesday, while Dureza was being interviewed on his meeting with members of the Ampatuan clan a day after the massacre. Dureza said the meeting took place Tuesday, a day after the massacre. He said he eventually convinced the Ampatuans to “surrender" Datu Unsay Mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr. to face possible charges for the crime. - LBG/RSJ, GMANews.TV
