Genalyn Mangudadatu suffered 17 gunshot wounds – NBI

Among the 57 people massacred in Ampatuan town, Maguindanao, the wife of Buluan town vice mayor Ismael “Toto" Mangudadatu could have suffered the most brutally inflicted death after autopsy reports showed that she sustained the most number of gunshot wounds.

Medico-legal results from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) revealed that Genalyn Tiamson-Mangudadatu was shot at close range and that her body suffered 17 bullet holes, including on her head and genitals.

“This would show the manner of the killing. Hindi isa lang e. Kung isa lang marami ka pang theory. Pero ito, 17 shot wounds, hindi ka talaga bubuhayin noon (It wasn’t just one bullet. If there was just one, you’d have considered many theories. But this one, 17 gunshot wounds, they didn’t intend to let her live)," said acting Justice Secretary Agnes Devanadera.

It was not clear from the medico-legal reports how many of the 17 bullet holes found in Genalyn’s body were entry wounds, and how many were exit wounds.

In a related concern, the NBI has found no signs that Genalyn and 14 other female victims were sexually abused by their killers. Included in the examination were her two sisters-in-law and three women journalists.

In his report aired over GMA News’ “24 Oras," John Consulta quoted Floresto Arizala Jr., head of the NBI medico-legal team, as saying that the bodies were negative for semen.

But Arizala said the NBI is ready to conduct DNA testing to verify the results.

Earlier, the Mangudadatus aired suspicions that their female kinfolk had been raped, as their bodies were found with unzipped pants.

“Bloating and decomposition will actually force up (the) zipper, yung huli kong nakita 23 lang ang reported na waistline eh when I examined almost 40 na (the last body I examined reportedly had a mere 23-inch waistline, but when I examined it, it was already almost 40)," Arizala said.

Genalyn, together with 56 others, were on their way to Shariff Aguak to register her husband as gubernatorial candidate in Maguindanao province when they were allegedly abducted by Datu Unsay town mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr., Mangudadatu’s political rival.

The NBI also said that based on the slugs recovered from the crime scene, the victims were killed using high-powered guns.

The autopsy reports were among the pieces of evidence that were used to file 25 counts of murder charges against Ampatuan. The suspect, for his part, has denied involvement in the carnage. – Aie Balagtas See/JV, GMANews.TV
