Ex-beauty queen Aurora Sevilla nabbed for drug peddling

How poor could a former beauty queen and actress be to peddle illegal drugs to get money for her child’s educational trip? Aurora Sevilla was nabbed by anti-narcotics agents of the Mandaluyong City Police on Thursday night for allegedly selling P2,000 worth of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) to a certain Rodney Chuidian on Kalentong Street. In his report, GMA’s James Velasquez said Sevilla was emotional when she was brought to the police station, claiming that she only went to Kalentong to play the slot machine and get money for her child’s field trip. The former actress said she was surprised when an unidentified man handed to her two sachets of shabu when the police arrested her.

But Chuidian said he went to Kalentong to buy illegal drugs from Sevilla. The television report said authorities conducted the operation upon receiving information from an unnamed informant that illegal drugs will be sold in the area. The police immediately recognized Sevilla and saw her in the act of selling drugs to Chuidian. Charges of violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 were filed against the two. Sevilla had been a recipient of GMA Network's Wish Ko Lang last May. She was crowned Mutya ng Pilipinas in 1984, and named Ms. Press Photography the year before. She entered the entertainment business after her reign and starred in several movies opposite the most popular actions stars. - Amita Legaspi/RSJ, GMANews.TV
