Pinoy hospital employee in Dubai accused of taking donation cash

A Filipino employee at a hospital in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) stood trial before a Dubai court for allegedly stealing some Dh3,700 (P46,509) in donation money last October.

UAE news site Khaleej Times reported Friday that the Filipino, 33, worked as an office boy at the Radiography Section of the American Hospital.

The Filipino, who stood trial on Sunday in the Court of First Instance on the charge of theft, admitted to the crime.

“He said their box inside the hospital went missing. By reviewing the CCTV tape we could identify the person who stole the charity box," an Emirati public relations manager claimed before the court.

Court records showed that the hospital management received a complaint from the charity collector on October 5.

The Public Prosecution presented the court with the CD of the footage showing the porter pushing a big carriage covered with a white blanket.

The Filipino suspect admitted to having changed the direction of the surveillance cameras placed at the reception of the hospital.

He also recounted having hidden the donation box the following day inside a big cloth carriage to secure its way out of the hospital.

The Filipino then used a knife to open the box and take the money. - JHU, GMANews.TV
