Olympic-style drug testing for Pacquiao-Mayweather sought

The camp of Floyd Mayweather Jr. are reportedly seeking a random, Olympic-style drug testing for their fighter and seven-division champion Manny Pacquiao in the run-up to their targeted March 13 super fight. According to a report by MLive.Com , Mayweather’s advisers Leonard Ellerbe and Al Hayman want a more sophisticated and complete dope testing than those conducted by the state sports commissions, purportedly to “protect" their boxer.

“With the standard commission testing, they only test for specific things. The Olympic-style testing tests for everything. The commission testing is nowhere near as sophisticated," Ellerbe was quoted as saying. State commissions normally get urine samples from fighters on fight night while in the Olympics, bodies such as the World Anti-Doping Agency administer random tests whenever it chooses. Blood samples will also be taken to test for steroids and other performance-enhancing substances. Ellerbe, though, stressed that the dope test demand was solely his and Hayman’s, and without the input of Mayweather Jr. The fighter’s father, Floyd Sr. has earlier accused Pacquiao of taking performance-enhancing substances to boost his ascent in weight - something that the Pacman has denied and dismissed after official dope test results from the Nevada State Athletic Commission declared him clean. “It’s not a one-way thing - it’s both fighters who are subject to testing. And this is not Floyd saying this. This is me and Al. This is one of the biggest fights in the history of the sport and the fans deserve it to be fair," Ellerbe said.

They can do whatever kind of drug testing they want. They're scared of Manny and scared of his power. He'll pass any test in the world.
– Trainer Freddie Roach
“Floyd’s got nothing to do with this. It’s our job to protect him and give him the best chance to be successful. Inside the ring, he’s got that. He’ll have no problem with Pacquiao, none whatsoever. Our job is to take care of things outside the ring," he added. Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach said he has no problem with dope tests since Team Pacquiao “has nothing to hide" and added that this indicates Mayweather’s fear of the Filipino ring icon’s power, which has remained lethal as he climbs in weight. "Mayweather's side wanted it because the expert over there, Mayweather Sr., says Manny is on steroids to get bigger. I have no problem with the testing whatsoever," Roach was quoted by doghouseboxing.com . "They can do whatever kind of drug testing they want. They're scared of Manny and scared of his power. He'll pass any test in the world," he added. - GMANews.TV
