Noynoy leads, Villar not far behind in new survey

Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III leads the latest presidential survey of a public relations firm, but Sen. Manny Villar is slowly inching closer, a television report said Sunday. GMA's Weekend Report said the survey conducted by the Issues and Advocacy Center - or simply called The Center - showed Aquino (Liberal Party) being preferred by 31 percent of the 1,200 respondents, while Villar (Nacionalista Party) by 24 percent. The report quoted The Center's director, Ed Malay, as saying that this is due to the diminishing impact of the death of Aquino's mother, the late President Corazon "Cory" Aquino, on his candidacy. Mrs. Aquino died last August from colon cancer. Support for Noynoy's candidacy snowballed from then. The respondents were asked, "Who would you vote for from among the list of presidential aspirants?" Other presidential aspirants for the 2010 elections are former President Joseph Estrada, former Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., Sen. Richard Gordon, Sen. Jamby Madrigal, Jesus Is Lord leader Bro. Eddie Villanueva, environmentalist Nicky Perlas, and Olongapo City Councilor JC de los Reyes. Aquino's running mate, Sen. Manuel Roxas II, meanwhile, topped the vice presidential survey of The Center with 28 percent, while Villar's partner, Sen. Loren Legarda, was not far behind with 25 percent. Conducted last December 2 to 6, it was the first survey conducted since all candidates formalized their respective bids. - KBK, GMANews.TV
