Manila has banned bird and poultry imports from Germany and from the village of Saint Aubin du Plain in France following an outbreak of a mild strain of avian influenza in the two areas.
The Agriculture department issued Memorandum Orders 31 and 32 on November 25 and December 3, respectively, banning domestic and wild birds, poultry meat, day-old chicks, eggs and semen from the areas.
Agriculture Undersecretary Bernie Fondevilla noted that while Germany is not a major source of poultry products for the Philippines, the government is imposing the temporary ban as a precautionary measure.
