Manila Water, Maynilad to hike rates starting January

Manila Water Co., Inc. and Maynilad Water Services, Inc. will increase rates starting next year to recover investments following regulatory approval.

Manila Water, which operates Metro Manila’s east zone, will hike water tariff by P1.16 per cubic meter effective January 2. To protect low-income households, residential customers consuming 10 cubic meters or less will be exempted from the rate adjustment.

Water bills of residential customers consuming 15 cubic meters a month will go up by P14.10, while the bills of majority of customers consuming 30 cubic meters per month will go up byP39.

Meanwhile, Maynilad, the west zone operator, will increase its rate by an average of P1.05 per cubic meter. Residential customers consuming 10 cubic meters or less a month may see a hike of P6.36 in their monthly bills.

Those who use up 20 cubic meters will see their bills go up by P19.38, while those who consume 30 cubic meters will have to pay P39 more.

Maynilad and Manila Water's rates have been set until 2012.

Maynilad's service area covers the west zone concession area, which includes Pasay, Caloocan, Las Pinas, Paranaque, Valenzuela, Muntinlupa, Manila except Sta. Ana, some areas of Makati and Quezon City, Malabon and Navotas, as well as Cavite City, Rosario, Imus, Noveleta, Bacoor, and Kawit in Cavite.

Manila Water’s east zone concession area, meanwhile includes Makati, Taguig, Pateros, Marikina, Pasig, San Juan, Mandaluyong, Rizal province, the southeastern part of Manila and parts of Quezon City. — CMA and NPA, GMANews.TV
