Admitting the suspect in the road rage killing of a Malacañang officials’ son last month may have fled abroad, the National Bureau of Investigation has made arrangements with the International Police Organization (Interpol) for the suspect's provisional arrest. NBI spokesman and Anti-Terrorism Unit head lawyer Ricardo Diaz said they will use the arrest warrant issued against suspect Jason Ivler as basis for their request to the Interpol. "Yes, we are working to have Ivler made the subject of an Interpol red notice. He already has a warrant of arrest," Diaz told dzXL radio in Filipino. Diaz said the NBI maintains one unit – the Special Action Unit – to look for Ivler full time, but admits the possibility of the suspect having fled the country through the backdoor. "Ang problema natin kung dumaan siya sa unofficial points tulad ng sa backdoor ... meron tayong Interpol kung saan hihingan natin ng tulong (Our problem is if he flees through unofficial exit points like the country’s backdoor. We have an Interpol to run to for help)," he said.
An Interpol Red Notice requests the provisional arrest of wanted persons, with a view to extradition. The Interpol covers 188 countries. But the Interpol said a Red Notice, which covers persons wanted by national jurisdictions or the International Criminal Tribunals where appropriate, is not an international arrest warrant. "These red notices allow the warrant to be circulated worldwide with the request that the wanted person be arrested with a view to extradition," it said on its
website. Interpol has two types of red notice: one based on an arrest warrant and is issued for a person wanted for prosecution; and one based on a court decision for a person wanted to serve a sentence. An official Interpol Wanted Fugitives list is maintained on the Interpol website. This information may be copied and distributed.
Reward now P1 million On Thursday, the reward for information leading to Ivler was raised to P1 million. Ivler, the nephew of Filipino folk singer Freddie Aguilar and stepson of British diplomat Stephen James Pollard, has been the subject of a nationwide manhunt for a road rage shooting last November 18. He was tagged in the fatal shooting of Renato Ebarle Jr., 27, last November. Police
failed to arrest him in Quezon City last Wednesday. Ebarle was the only son of Renato Ebarle Sr., an undersecretary at the Office of the Presidential Chief of Staff. Ivler has failed to surface after being linked to the shooting incident despite an appeal by her mother, artist and author Marlene Aguilar Pollard. "With the Interpol’s help, we can tap the world to spot him. It will be hard for him to hide when we are now in a global village," Diaz said.
