Noynoy tops another survey, 46% will vote for him

(UPDATE 3 - 9:52 pm) Once again, Liberal Party standard-bearer Senator Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" Aquino III has topped a nationwide survey, with almost half of the respondents saying they will vote form him as president. Results of the December 5 to 10 survey conducted by pollster Social Weather Stations (SWS) showed that 46 percent of 2,100 respondents had chosen Aquino. The same survey also showed Aquino's running-mate, Sen. Manuel "Mar" Roxas II, leading the pack of vice presidential bets in 2010. The SWS presented the respondents with a list of 11 presidential aspirants and were asked: "Sa mga sumusunod na pangalan sa listahang ito, sino po ang malamang ninyong iboboto bilang presidente ng Pilipinas, kung ang eleksyon ay gaganapin ngayon?" (Among the names found on this list, who will you probably vote for president of the Philippines, if elections were held today?) The respondents were also presented lists of vice-presidential and senatorial candidates and were also asked who among the persons on the lists would they vote for if the polls were held today. Villar, Estrada catch up
Villar, the closest rival of Aquino in the survey, got 27 percent, followed by former President Joseph Estrada with 16 percent. Administration party candidate Gilberto Teodoro Jr. was in fourth place with 5 percent. Evangelist Eduardo Villanueva and Sen. Richard Gordon were both in fifth place, each having a 1-percent preference rating. Meanwhile, the following obtained fractional numbers in the survey: Sen. Maria Ana Consuelo Jamby Madrigal (0.2 percent), lawyer Oliver Lozano (0.1 percent), former Manila representative Mario Crespo (0.1 percent) and Olongapo City councilor John Carlos delos Reyes (0.1 percent), and Jesus Nicanor Perlas (0.03 percent) Four percent did not give an answer, according to the SWS. Solidifies lead
Noynoy's consistent wide lead already a sign of victory - analyst Unless he does something damaging to his political career, Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" Aquino III's consistent wide lead over his political opponents in several nationwide surveys is already a sure sign of his victory in the 2010 presidential polls, according to a political analyst. "Kung wala namang magiging malaking pagkakamali si Noynoy, mukhang hindi na ito magbabago. Hindi na ito puwedeng tawaging bugso ng damdamin. Lumilitaw sa survey na ito na may solid votes na talaga para sa kanya", Ramon Casiple, executive director of the Institute for Political and Electoral Reforms, told GMANews.TV on Tuesday. (If Noynoy will not commit any major blunder in the future, these survey results will remain unchanged until the 2010 polls. You can no longer call this an emotional outpouring anymore. This survey shows that Noynoy already has solid votes.) He said Aquino’s lead was already “very significant," which could already serve as shield to any form of electoral fraud that his opponents might employ against him in the coming polls. “Mahirap nang dayain ito. Kung baga sa basketball game, tambak na ‘yung kalaban at nag-uuwian na ‘yung audience sa point na ito," he said. (It's already difficult to cheat. It's like in the basketball game when opponents have already lost by a wide margin and the audience are about to go home.) Aquino, who joined the presidential race after the death of his mother, former President Corazon Aquino last August, got the nod of 46 percent of the respondents in a preference survey conducted by pollster Social Weather Stations (SWS) from December 5 to 10. The same SWS survey showed second-placer Sen. Manuel “Manny" Villar Jr. catching up on Aquino’s lead, with 27 percent or a seven percentage-point increase from his November preference rating. Former President Joseph Estrada, who came in third place, also improved his current preferential rating to 16 percent, up four percentage points from November’s 12 percent. Despite Aquino’s lead, Estrada’s camp is still confident that the former president can still move on top of the surveys. “After President Estrada's filing of his candidacy, people who had been wondering whether or not he was a serious candidate now know that he is determined to make a comeback and are showing that they are ready to support President Estrada," Margaux Salcedo, Estrada’s spokesperson, told GMANews.TV on Tuesday via e-mail. Meanwhile, Nacionalista Party senatorial candidate Gilbert Remulla is also optimistic that the survey ratings of Villar will continue improving. "It is the first time in SWS surveys that we have breached the 20-point differential. The remaining four and a half months will continue this trend and we see that it will be a very close race when May comes around," Remulla said in a text message to GMANews.TV Tuesday night. However, the only way to beat Aquino in the 2010 polls is for either Villar or Estrada to back out of the race and support the other's candidacy, according to Casiple. "Unless isa sa kanila ang hindi na tatakbo at susuportahan ang isa’t isa, mahirap nang matinag si Noynoy (Unless one of them bails out and support the other's candidacy, Noynoy will still remain unshaken until election day)," he said. - Andreo C. Aquino has solidified his lead in nationwide surveys, enjoying a consistently wide margin over his political opponents in next year's polls. Results of the SWS survey were almost similar to that of Pulse Asia, which was conducted early December. Forty-five percent of the latter's respondents also picked Aquino as their most preferred presidential aspirant. Last week, Aquino also topped the survey conducted by a group of 800 businessmen under the Makati Business Club. He got an approval rating of 61 percent. In October, another Pulse Asia survey showed Aquino leading the poll with a 44-percent approval rating. Earlier, in September, two surveys done by the SWS showed Aquino enjoying wide margins of 60 and 50 percent. The Aquino ratings are a record high. It surpassed the SWS poll results for Estrada at the height of his popularity, when his pre-election approval ratings were just 36.52 percent in May 1998; and 18 percent in January 1998. Roxas, Legarda top survey on VP bets Meanwhile, the December 5 to 10 SWS survey also showed that from the list of eight vice presidential candidates, Roxas led the race with 43 percent, followed by Loren Legarda with 32 percent. Makati City mayor Jejomar Binay was third with 10 percent, followed by actor Edu Manzano with 3 percent, and Bayani Fernando, chairman of the Metro Manila Development Authority, with 2 percent. Veteran broadcaster Jose "Jay" Sonza and Perfecto Yasay each scored fractionally, with 0.3 percent and 0.1%, respectively.
