Dennis Orcullo is slowly making his presence felt in the 4th Billiards and Snooker Congress of the Philippines-Philippine National Championship.
Orcollo, the most feared Filipino player in the money-game, secured a seat in the semifinal round Monday at the Star Billiards Center after sweeping his rivals.
Regarded as Bugsy Promotions’s top bet, the former world No.1 player scored a 9-7 win over John Salazar and coasted to a 9-0 triumph against Carlo Biado to move into the next round.
He will be joined in the Final Four by veteran campaigner and ex-Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Victor Arpilleda.
Arpilleda ripped two-time world champion Ronnie Alcano, 9-7, and outlasted Marvin Tapia in a hill-hill encounter, 9-8.
A new champion is sure to be crowned this year following the ouster of defending titlist Marlon Manalo, who was eliminated after suffering two heart-breaking hill-hill encounters against Salazar and veteran cue artist Antonio Lining.
Six players are still in contention in the loser’s bracket, who will dispute the last two spots in the Final Four – Alcano, former World Pool runner-up Roberto Gomez, Lee Van Corteza, Rodrigo Geronimo, Tapia and Biado.
Alcano whipped Ramil Gallego, 9-5; Gomez ripped Gandy Valle, 9-5; Corteza subdued Salazar, 9-7; and Geronimo ousted Rocky Tullao, 9-6.
Other contenders are Tapia and Biado, who were still awaiting their opponents in the knockout duels. – GMANews.TV
