Pinoy to spend 1 year in UAE jail for stealing donation money

A Filipino hospital porter will spend one year in jail in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after a court sentenced him for stealing a donation box with some Dh3,700 (P47,089) last October. UAE news site Khaleej Times reported that the Court of First Instance also ordered the deportation of the 33-year-old Filipino after completion of his jail term. Court records showed that the Filipino, who was employed in the Radiography Section of American Hospital, took the donation money. Also, the records showed that the hospital management received a complaint from the charity collector on October 5. “The box inside the hospital went missing. By reviewing the CCTV tape, we could identify the person who had stolen the charity box," an Emirati public relations manager said. The Filipino admitted having turned to other direction the surveillance cameras at the reception area of the hospital. He also recounted hiding the donation box the following day inside a big cloth carriage to secure its way out of the hospital. He used a knife to open the box and get the money. The Public Prosecution presented in the court a footage showing the porter pushing a big carriage covered with a white blanket. LBG, GMANews.TV
