PNP chief wants gun-firing policeman dismissed


Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Jesus Verzosa wants the lone police officer found to have fired his gun during the New Year holiday dismissed from service as soon as possible. This is according to PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Leonardo Espina in a phone interview with GMANews.TV. Early Saturday, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Roberto Rosales announced that none of Metro Manila’s uniformed personnel fired their service rifles during the New Year, at least not within Metro Manila. Personal inspection continues Rosales made the announcement as he personally inspected the firearms of members of the NCRPO, which have been sealed since December 29. Inspection of Metro Manila police’s firearms will continue until Monday, according to a report over radio dzBB. PO1 Nabo Jusay of the NCRPO was found to have fired his service firearm while on vacation in Sta. Ana, Cagayan. Jusay is from the NCRPO. "We do not tolerate scalawags" “We do not tolerate scalawags in our ranks," said Espina. “Director General Verzosa has ordered an immediate joint investigation on Jusay’s case from the Cagayan Regional Police, the NCRPO, and the Internal Affairs Service of the PNP. He wants him dismissed." Jusay is currently detained at the Sta. Ana police station in Cagayan province. He was charged with illegal discharge of firearms, said Espina. The Cagayan Regional Police Office, however, cannot be reached for comment. Four civilians also detained Espina also said four civilians were detained for indiscriminate firing. They are Eugene Villanueva and Rey de Ocampo of Quezon City, Alex Caalim of Cagayan, and a still unidentified person in Santiago City, Isabela. - TJD, GMANews.TV
