2 more remains found from Catalyn shipwreck


(Update 2 - 8 am, Jan. 3, 2010) Two more bodies were recovered on Saturday from the shipwreck of a motor banca that sank of the coast of Cavite province last week, raising the number of fatalities from the sea tragedy to five. Philippine Coast Guard auxiliary divers assisted by American diver Matthew Caldwell retrieved the remains of a man and a woman identified as 30-year-old Alex Masangkay, and Lea Ann Tejoso, reportedly in her 20s. The victims' bodies were already in their advanced state of decomposition. The three other victims were earlier identified as Welmer Tanayan, 27; Relly Morales, 71; and Beverly Cabanillo, 36.

MV Catalyn B owned by San Nicolas Shipping Lines fell more than 200 feet below the sea minutes after it collided with the steel-hulled fishing boat FV Anatalia off Limbones Island on Christmas Eve. FV Anatalia is owned by FilMariner Aquaventures. At least 22 more passengers of MV Catalyn B remain missing.
